While fall may not be in the air just yet, that certainly doesn’t stop us from pretending. I had my first pumpkin spice latte and unboxed our fall/ halloween decor yesterday. Early? Maybe, but my husband has been out of town most of the week, and sometimes I like to throw my hands up and let the kids call the shots. They wanted apple cider, halloween decor and Pumpkin Spice Play Dough. So that’s what our weekend looked like. After all fall is only 13 days away.
Here’s a glimpse at our play dough fun, and a recipe…
Pumpkin Spice Play Dough
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup salt
- 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
- 1 cup pumpkin purée
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon*
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg*
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger*
- 1 teaspoon cloves*
- OR *skip the last 4 spices and add 3 1/2 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice
- orange gel food coloring
Mix dry ingredients and set aside.
Heat the second set of ingredients on the stove until just bubbling. Remove from heat and combine with dry ingredients and food coloring. Mix with a spoon and let cool for 5-10 minutes. Knead dough until soft and room temperature. Store in a ziplock bag in the fridge when not in use.
Add-In Items: Cookie Cutters, Cinnamon Sticks, Whole Cloves, Pipe Cleaners.
We tested our Pumpkin Spice Play Dough with cousins this morning and it was a success. My son is on round two as I type this post. He’s been going strong with new creations for almost 2 hours now. I call that a WIN!
