3/22/18 UPDATE: Save yourself a trip! The Toys R Us liquidation sale has been postponed.
Toys R Us will begin liquidation sales at most of its U.S. stores on Thursday (March 22nd), and complete those sales by the end of June. They will start at 5% off store-wide tomorrow and items will continually be discounted week after week until everything is gone. Toys R Us will run their own sales until May 14th, at which time liquidators will come in and sell everything else. UPDATE: Toy’s R Us liquidation sales have been postponed due to court hearing! It sounds like they are still trying to figure everything out. As of yesterday, my store received a call from corporate to start printing liquidation signs.
Many people are frantically trying to get rid of unused gift cards, and now is the time to BUY! There are hundreds of Toys R Us gift cards for sale on Gift Card Granny at 25% off! These can be paired with slashed in-store prices for a HOT DEAL! There is one important NOTE: All gift cards must be used by April 13. If you’re willing to shop immediately after you buy one, IT’S WORTH IT!
Amazon is the latest rumored buyer poised to potentially take over all closed Toys “R” Us locations.
Just as Amazon recently bought Whole Foods, there is talk about Amazon acquiring closed Toys R Us stores for more retail space. As Walmart ramps up their same-day delivery, this would give Amazon more locations to get products to you faster than they do now. I will certainly miss the toy store I grew up in, but I’d be ok with a new Amazon store down the road!
What to watch for?
Watch for deep discounts on Apple products, diapers, LEGO, and more! *Any LEGO discounts over 20% are RARE!
Many items are already discounted and should continue on top of the store-wide savings. Watch for red clearance tags and sale signs. I spotted 30% off character themed Play-Doh sets, 20% off Crayola Color Wonder, BOGO 40% off Schelich, 25% off all Playmobil, 20% off Coco musical instruments + MORE.
Keep in mind, your store may no longer accept returns after today.
